Various Topics on Retaining Walls

Synopsis:
Retaining Walls are a large topic with many facets. It is not uncommon for structural engineers to be presented with the need to design a retaining wall. However, not many structural engineers make retaining wall design their primary practice. Due to retaining walls being such a large topic and designers often being limited in experience, design mistakes can easily occur. The purpose of this presentation is to bring light some of these potential mistakes, to explain retaining wall concepts, and to discuss modes of failure. In this presentation Mr. Berkes will discuss retaining wall types, lateral earth pressure (equivalent fluid pressure), soil strengths, Global Stability, and identification of walls failures.
