Abstract:

Strengthening, Modifications and Repair (SMR) is a critical facet of offshore engineering, ensuring the continued safety and integrity of offshore installations exposed to harsh marine environments. These installations are susceptible to degradation over time due to factors such as corrosion, fatigue, mechanical damage, and environmental loading. Timely and effective SMR interventions are essential to prevent structural failures, extend asset life, and maintain production uptime. A wide range of SMR techniques are available, and the choice of method depends on various factors such as the type of damage, water depth, environmental conditions, and accessibility. This presentation highlights case studies that showcase effectiveness of different SMR techniques employed to improve the overall structural integrity of aging offshore platforms and extend their service life. Participants will gain practical knowledge on selecting suitable SMR methods, evaluating their effectiveness for different damage scenarios, and applying lessons learned to enhance safety, reliability, and service life of offshore assets.
